================================================== Second International Conference on Security in Pervasive Computing (SPC-2005) April 6 - 8, 2005 in Boppard, Germany http://www.spc-conf.org =================================================== The ongoing compression of computing facilities into small and mobile devices like handhelds, portables or even wearable computers will enhance an ubiquitous information processing. The basic para- digm of such a pervasive computing is the combination of strongly decentralized and distributed computing with the help of diversified devices allowing for spontaneous connectivity via the internet. Computers will become invisible to the users awareness and exchange of information between devices will effectively defy users control. The objective of this conference is to develop new security concepts for complex application scenarios based on systems like handhelds, phones, smartcards, and smart labels hand in hand with the emerg- ing technology of ubiquitous and pervasive computing. Particular subjects are methods and technology concerning the identification of risks, the definition of security policies, and the development of security measures that are related to the specific aspects of ubiquitous and pervasive computing like mobility, communication, and secure hardware/software platforms. Organisation: ----------------- The conference is organised jointly by the German Information Security Agency (BSI) and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) The conference will take place in an old former monastery in Boppard, Germany. Boppard is a nice small town located in the rhine valley about one hour away from Frankfurt airport. September 2005 Bonn, Deutschland Workshop im Rahmen der 35. Jahrestagung "Informatik LIVE!" der Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. www.gi-fg-sidar.de/skvu2005 Einen unaufhaltsamen Trend der heutigen Informationsgesellschaft stellt die zunehmende Vernetzung von Computersystemen in den unterschiedlichen Bereichen dar. Den vielfältigen sich daraus ergebenden Vorteilen steht eine zunehmende Menge von Bedrohungen entgegen, die auf vielen Ebenen einen Einfluss auf das Leben und die Gesellschaft haben können. Getreu dem Motto "Informatik LIVE!" der diesjährigen Jahrestagung der Gesell- schaft für Informatik möchte sich der hier beschriebene Workshop mit diesen Einflüssen und gezielten Reaktionen darauf auseinandersetzen. Die Ziele und Methoden der "klassischen" Informationssicherheit werden auch in zukünftigen komplexen vernetzten Umgebungen Bestand haben, jedoch verlagern sich die Schwerpunkte und Abhängigkeiten zusehends. So stehen beispielsweise Fragestellungen wie Verfügbarkeit und Modell- ierung von Vertrauen in solchen Umgebungen eher im Mittelpunkt als Verfahren zur Sicherstellung von Vertraulichkeit und Integrität. Vor diesem Hintergrund möchte dieser Workshop den Dialog zwischen Experten aus dem Bereich der Informationssicherheit anregen und vertiefen. Dieser Workshop soll - ergänzend zu etablierten Veranstaltungen dieser Art - aktuelle Erkenntnisse und Ergebnisse von Forschungsarbeiten zu- sammentragen, die Lösungen für die sich aus der verstärkten Vernetzung ergebenden Probleme anbieten. Über die Vorstellung von Forschungser- gebnissen hinaus können Konzepte für zukünftige Arbeiten, praktische Erfahrungen und praxisrelevante Erkenntnisse zum Wert dieser Veranstal- tung beitragen. Hintergrund =========== Der Gedanke der angestrebten komplexen Vernetzung von Systemen (als wesentliche Voraussetzung für die Vision eines Ubiquitous Computing) hält in verschiedenen Bereichen Einzug. Durch die Vernetzung von Computersystemen sind kürzeste Wege zwischen Sensoren und Effektoren sowie dadurch bedingt eine erhebliche Verkürzung von Entscheidungspro- zessen möglich geworden, sodass Informationen schnellstmöglich an allen Orten zur Verfügung stehen, an denen sie gebraucht werden. Damit kann man eine erhebliche Steigerung der Effektivität erzielen. Eine intensive Vernetzung zieht eine Reihe von Implikationen auf Archi- tekturen und Systeme nach sich, denen beim Entwurf und der Entwicklung von Verfahren zur Aufrechterhaltung der Informationssicherheit in ver- stärktem Maße Rechnung zu tragen ist. Hierzu gehören: - Komplexe Verknüpfungen von Sicherheitsdiensten (z. B. Zugriffskontrolle, Vertraulichkeit und Non-Repudiation). - komplexere Modelle für Vertrauen (Trust), - besonders große und heterogene Kommunikationsumgebungen (draht- gebunden vs. drahtlos, stationär vs. mobil), - Verknüpfung unterschiedlicher Sicherheitsdomänen und Netzüber- gänge (z. B. durch Information Flow Control), - Ressourcen-Transparenz (die sich auch Angreifer zunutze machen können). Im Rahmen des Workshops soll sich ein breiteres Verständnis für die zukünftig wichtigen Themengebiete und Methodiken entwickeln. Ebenso soll sich eine Diskussion der Sicherheitsrisiken ergeben, die trotz neuartiger Ansätze entstehen können. Insgesamt können so Bereiche auf- gezeigt werden, denen bislang noch zu wenig Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wurde, in denen aber noch wesentliche Forschungsarbeiten zu leisten sind. Themenvorschläge ================ Es wird um die Einreichung von Beiträgen aus den folgenden und verwand- ten Gebieten - unter spezieller Berücksichtigung des geschilderten Hintergrundes - gebeten: - Intrusion Detection / Response in integrierten Sicherheits- architekturen (z.B. Software Embedded Sensors), - Kooperierende Sicherheitssysteme für Koalitionsumgebungen, - Intruder Tracing / Forensische Analyse in transparenten dynami- schen Netzen, - Intrusion Detection / Response / Tolerance in mobilen Ad-hoc- Netzen, - Sicherheit in Sensornetzen, - Dynamische Modellierung von Sicherheitsrichtlinien (Policies), - Integration von Honeypots, Honeynets und Honeytokens in beste- hende Sicherheitsysteme. Einreichungen ============= Jeder Beitrag wird von mehreren Gutachtern des Programmkomitees bewer- tet. Angenommene Beiträge werden auf dem Workshop präsentiert und dis- kutiert. Die Beiträge werden im Tagungsband der INFORMATIK 2005 ver- öffentlicht, der in der von der GI herausgegebenen Reihe "Lecture Notes in Informatics LNI" erscheinen wird. DIMVA emphasizes the collaboration and exchange of ideas between industry, academia, law enforcement and government, and invites four types of submissions: - Full papers of up to 6000 words, presenting novel and mature research results. Full papers will be reviewed, and papers accepted for presentation at the conference will be included in the proceedings, which are planned to appear in Springers Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series. - Industry papers of up to 2000 words, describing best practices, case studies, lessons learned, or latest product developments. Industry papers will be reviewed and, if accepted for presentation at the conference, will be published at the DIMVA 2005 Web site. - Panel proposals for the discussion of hot topics in the areas of intrusion detection, malware, or vulnerability assessment. Panel proposals should include a short rationale for the panel, a description of the proposed panel format, and names of panelists. - Proposals of two-to-three-hour tutorials on topics of current or emerging interest. Tutorial proposals must not exceed three pages. They must clearly identify the intended audience, include a brief biography of the speaker, and contain enough material to provide a sense of their scope and depth. Tutorial material will be published on the DIMVA 2005 Web site. The scope of DIMVA is broad and includes, but is not restricted to the following areas: Intrusion detection: - Novel intrusion detection and correlation techniques such as alert fusion or honey pots - Intrusion detection in special environments such as control systems or mobile networks - Assessment, testing, and benchmarking of intrusion detection systems - Automated response systems and intrusion prevention systems - Incident management and response, response team cooperation, and legal issues Malware: - Detection and prevention of viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and other forms of malware - Malware trends and statistics - Techniques used to increase the harmfulness of malware - Detailed analysis and discussion of the latest malware as well as computer and network forensics in general Vulnerability assessment: - New reverse engineering techniques - Circumvention of security mechanisms such as bypassing of buffer overflow protection - Risk evaluation and weighing, ROI on vulnerability assessments and management - Software development, testing, and verification methodologies for IT-security DIMVA specifically encourages interdisciplinary papers that combine elements from all three main areas, as well as papers from other communities such as machine learning, law, crime detection and investigation, or economics that present these communities perspectives on and contributions to the above IT security issues. DIMVA emphasizes the collaboration and exchange of ideas between industry, academia, law enforcement and government, and invites four types of submissions: - Full papers of up to 6000 words, presenting novel and mature research results. Full papers will be reviewed, and papers accepted for presentation at the conference will be included in the proceedings, which are planned to appear in Springers Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series. - Industry papers of up to 2000 words, describing best practices, case studies, lessons learned, or latest product developments. Im interdisziplinären Diskurs sollen die verschiedenen Perspektiven beleuchtet und sowohl der Stand der Technik als auch neue Entwicklungen kommentiert sowie die Implikationen für zukünftige Konzepte und Implementierungen aufgezeigt werden. Nach einem Überblick aus technischer und juristischer Sicht steht die gemeinsame Entwicklung von rechtlich zulässigen und gleichermaßen praxistauglichen Lösungen im Mittelpunkt. Damit verbundene, neue Forschungsfragen sollen herausgearbeitet werden. Das Programmkomitee lädt ein zur Einreichung von Beiträgen, die unter anderem (aber nicht ausschließlich) folgende Gesichtspunkte behandeln: 1) Überblick über - den Stand der Technik und die - Initiativen zur Standardisierung und Zertifizierung im Bereich von Technologien und Maßnahmen wie - Entdeckung von Schutzzielverletzungen (Intrusion Detection), - Entdeckung von Agenten mit Schadensfunktion (Malware), - Ermittlung von Verwundbarkeiten (Vulnerability Assessment), - Vorfallsmeldungen/Sicherheitswarnungen durch Hersteller/CERTS, - Sicherung und Analyse von Datenspuren (Honeypots, Forensics) oder - Datenbestandssicherung (Backup). Diese Beiträge sollen insbesondere erläutern, welche personenbezogenen Daten anfallen und wie sie verarbeitet werden. 2) Überblick über die juristischen Grundlagen im nationalen oder internationalen Kontext im Hinblick auf die Erhebung und Verarbeitung personenbezogener Daten insbesondere im Bereich - des Datenschutzes, - der betrieblichen Mitbestimmung, - der Strafverfolgung und - der inneren Sicherheit. 3) Möglichkeiten und Implikationen einer datenschutzfreundlichen Gestaltung der unter 1) aufgeführten Technologien, indem Maßnahmen für ein größtmögliches Maß an Datensparsamkeit durch z.B. - vollständige Vermeidung oder frühestmögliche - Anonymisierung, - Pseudonymisierung, - Aggregation oder - (ggf. automatisierter) Löschung von personenbezogenen Daten realisiert werden oder durch eine nutzerfreundliche Gestaltung. 4) Organisatorische und juristische Implikationen bei der datenschutzgerechten Nutzung bzw. Durchführung der unter 1) genannten Technologien bzw. Maßnahmen, z.B. - Rechte und Pflichten von Dienstanbietern und Administratoren (u.a. Haftungsfragen, Vertragsgestaltung), - Umgang mit Anfragen ermittelnder Behörden, - gerichtliche Verwertbarkeit von Datenspuren, - Präzedenzurteile. FORMALIA -------- Jeder Beitrag wird von mindestens drei Gutachtern bewertet. Angenommene Beiträge werden auf dem Workshop präsentiert und diskutiert. BIOSIG - Biometrik und elektronische Signaturen Die Fachgruppe Biometrik und elektronische Signaturen widmet sich thematisch den Grundlagen, Methoden, Techniken, Abläufen und Realisierungen zur Sicherung der Authentizität und Integrität beteiligter Entitäten beim Einsatz von Informations-, Kommunikations- und Betriebssystemen für Anwendungen mit Sicherheitsbedarf sowie deren organisatorischen und rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen. Hierbei werden konstruktive Vorgehensweisen und Bedrohungsanalysen behandelt. Um diesen Themenkomplex auszuleuchten, weiterzuentwickeln und dabei Experten und Interessierte aus Praxis und Wissenschaft zusammenzubringen, gestaltet die Fachgruppe BIOSIG im Rahmen der GI Tagung "Sicherheit 2005" in Regensburg einen Workshop "Qualifizierte elektronische Signaturen in Theorie und Praxis" (QSIG2005). SAC is sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Group on Applied Computing (SIGAPP); its proceedings are published by ACM in both printed form and CD-ROM; they are also available on the web through the ACM Digital Library. More information about SIGAPP and past editions of SAC can be found at http://www.acm.org/sigapp/ 2005 Track on Computer Security (4th edition) The proliferation of network computing and especially the ubiquity of the Internet has made security one of the key areas in modern computing. The fourth edition of the Security Track strengthens its aims at bringing together researchers in any applied issues of computer and information security. The list of issues is vast, ranging from protocols to usability issues . Topics of interest include but are not limited to * software security (protocols, operating systems, etc.) * hardware security (smartcards, biometric technologies, etc.) * mobile security (properties for/from mobile agents, etc.) * network security (anti-virus, anti-hacker, anti-DoS tools, firewalls, real-time monitoring, etc.) * alternatives to cryptography (steganography, etc.) * security-specific software development practices (vulnerability testing, fault-injection resilience, etc.) * privacy and anonimity (trust management, pseudonimity, identity management, etc.) * safety and dependability issues (reliability, survivability, etc.) * cyberlaw and cybercrime (copyrights, trademarks, defamation, intellectual property, etc.) * security management and usability issues (security configuration, policy management, usability trials etc.) Best Papers The best papers of the 2003 edition are published in a special issue on computer security of the Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience (Wiley), vol. 16, no.1, 2004. The best papers of the 2004 edition are being published in a special issue of the Journal of Computer Security (IOS). We plan to continue this practice on the basis of appropriateness of the submissions. Original papers from the above mentioned or other related areas will be considered. Only full papers about original and unpublished research are sought. Parallel submission to other conferences or other tracks of SAC 2005 is forbidden. Each paper must be BLIND in the sense that it must only include its title but not mention anything about its authors. Self-reference must be blind too. The body of the paper must not exceed 4,000 words. Papers failing to comply with length limitations risk immediate rejection. Each submission should be formatted using LaTeX "article" style. All papers must be submitted by 3 September 2004. Submission is entirely mechanised by the CRP tool (Conference Review Package -- Copyright © 2001 Univ. of Colorado). The submission page is available here, where authors must first register their own account by obtaining a password, and then follow the instructions. Review and publication of accepted papers Each paper will be fully refereed and undergo a blind review process by at least three referees. Anyone wishing to review papers for the Security Track should email the Track Chairs for consideration. Accepted papers shall be formatted using the conference specific LaTeX style, which can be obtained from the symposium web page. Using this style, which is two-column, accepted papers must fit within five (5) pages, with the option to add a maximum of three (3) more pages at additional expenses. Accepted papers will be published in the ACM SAC 2005 proceedings. Some papers may only be accepted as poster papers, and will be published as extended 2-page abstracts in the proceedings. According to the authors' guidelines, which can be obtained from the symposium web page, at least one author per paper must register before their paper is included in the proceedings.
